How Markup Works
Markup is profit as a share of the cost: (price − cost) ÷ cost. To price with a markup, multiply the cost by (1 + markup). A pendant that cost $250 with a 150% markup sells for $625.
Keystone And Its Variations
Keystone means doubling the cost — a 100% markup — and it has long been the reference point for jewelry pricing. Many businesses price above or below it by category: lower on high-gold-content pieces where metal makes up most of the cost, higher on designer pieces and fashion jewelry.
